Sleep disorder is a condition that causes a lot of stress. Not being able to sleep at night and always being lethargic are very common symptoms.
Insomnia and Hypersomnia are two common types of sleeping disorder. We will learn about both these methods, what are the harmful effects of this, we have to bear the breath and how can we get relief from these harmful effects.
Insomnia is such a sleep disorder in which we get sleep and even if it comes, we will not get complete sleep and if we get it and if we open our eyes in the middle of the night, then we have very less chances of getting sleep again in insomnia disorder and many health problems like high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes are due to it. Like serious problems may have to be faced.
Doctors mostly suggest lifestyle and behavior changes to treat insomnia disorder and although people suffering from insomnia
can also get rid of it by taking medicines from the doctor.
If a person has trouble in sleeping more than 3 times a week and this problem is more than 3 months, then we called it a Chronic disorder, while this problem is less than 3 months, then we called it Short-term insomnia disorder.
Now we will know that due to insomnia disorder, there are 2 reasons for this:-
1) Primary insomnia
2) Secondary insomnia
If the insomnia disorder occurs independently and is not caused by a health problem, we call it Primary Insomnia. The important reason for primary insomnia can be the surrounding environment such as temperature, light, noise, divorce, lack of job or due to work time. Similarly if Insomnia disorder is due to internal body condition then it is called Secondary insomnia. The main cause of Secondary Insomnia is Mental Disturbance such as anxiety, hormonal imbalance, hyperparathyroidism, pregnancy, forgetfulness, drug addiction(side effects of medicines), alcohol addiction. Important symptoms of insomnia are tiredness in the body, sleeping during the day and always being angry.
Diagnosis and Treatment
To check for Insomnia, doctors recommend to do blood tests so they might be know the hormonal imbalances and low iron level in the body . In the condition of short-term insomnia, patients recover in a short time while doctors suggest cognitive behavioral therapy to patients suffering from chronic to improve behavior and personal habits. If the condition of insomnia is not cured by cognitive behavioral therapy, then doctors suggest sleeping pills.
Hypersomnia
Hypersomnia means excessive sleepiness means when we usually get 8 to 9 hours of sleep but even after 8 to 9 hours we are in sleepy mood, then we called it is Hypersomnia. In a simple language in this Hypersomnia, the person keeps feeling sleepy all the time, especially during the day time. Even after getting a full sleep at night, the pressure of sleep during the day is so strong that one cannot remain without sleep and it becomes necessary to sleep during the day from a nap of a few minutes to a few hours of sleep.
Hypersomnia (excessive sleepiness) is a sleep disorder that causes a person to have excessive daytime sleepiness. This is called excessive daytime sleepiness or EDS. A person with hypersomnia (excessive sleep) feels a constant need for sleep and is rarely able to feel completely rested.
Symptoms of Hypersomnia:-
1) Sleeping several times a day
2) Sleeping for more than 9 hours, but still not feeling rested
3) Difficulty waking up from sleep
4) Feeling confused when trying to wake up from sleep
Causes of Hypersomnia:-
1) Sleep disorders due to narcolepsy (daytime sleepiness) and sleep apnea (breathing pauses during sleep)
2) Not getting enough sleep at night
3) Being overweight
4) Overuse of drugs or alcohol
5) Due to head injury or neurological problems such as Parkinson's disease
6)Due to stress
These things can help with your sleeping habits:-
Changing your sleep habits may not cure hypersomnia, but it can help you feel better. For this it is necessary:
Go to bed at the same time every night.
Avoid consumption of alcohol and caffeine.
Create a peaceful sleep environment.
If possible avoid medications that can cause drowsiness.
Avoid working late at night.
